7200 Tons of Fish Exported from Armenia to Russia, Reports Food Safety Authority

The Food Safety Inspection Body reports that fish product exports from Armenia to Russia have increased to 7200 tons in the first seven months of 2020, compared to 5400 tons in 2019.

Initiated by the Armenian side, a video meeting took place today between the head of the State Food Safety Inspection Body, Gevorg Avetisyan, and the head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor), Sergey Dankvert.

"The parties discussed the situation regarding the export of fish and dairy products, particularly cheese, from Armenia. It was noted that a twofold increase in fish product exports from Armenia is expected by the end of the year. Strategic directions for economic integration within the EU framework until 2025 were also discussed," the statement from the State Food Safety Inspection Body indicated.

The food safety officials from Armenia and Russia reached a consensus to create and maintain favorable conditions for promoting trade in the food sector and ensuring the supply of safe food products.

It is worth mentioning that on August 20, an experimental program for the industrial fishing of trout was launched in Lake Sevan, which is planned to become the main system for the restoration of fish stocks in the lake in the coming years. Special regulations exist for industrial fishing; the minimum weight of the caught trout must be at least 0.5 kg. Additionally, fishing must take place at least 500 meters from the shore in designated areas of the lake.
