Baku Will Attempt to Exploit Tbilisi and Moscow's Disputes Against Yerevan
Baku will attempt to exploit the disputes between Tbilisi and Moscow against Yerevan. This intention is clearly reflected in the statements of the Azerbaijani president and the thematic discussions surrounding the upcoming visit of the country's Foreign Minister to Georgia.
Ilham Aliyev stated in an interview with several Azerbaijani television channels that official Baku highly appreciates the actions of the Georgian government, which has not allowed the transfer of cargo from Serbia and Russia through its territory to Armenia, as reported by news.am referencing interfax.az.
“As you know, Georgia has not allowed the transportation of weapons to Armenia through its territory. That is precisely why transportation aircraft supply weapons to Armenia through the territories and air routes of the Caspian countries. Georgia has acted as an extremely reliable partner. I want to express my gratitude to the government of Georgia for this,” he stated.
Aliyev then deemed it appropriate to interfere in Georgia's internal affairs and commented on the behavior of Georgian citizens of Armenian descent: “The roots of several provocative incidents that occurred in Georgia last year also lie with the global Armenian community. Their main goal is to disrupt Georgian-Azerbaijani relations. But they will not succeed, because, I repeat, we are reliable partners and discuss all issues openly. Azerbaijan has always been by Georgia's side.”
Particularly ironic was his statement about the Armenian “unfounded claims” towards Georgian churches. Aliyev has likely forgotten the scandalous incident and direct border violations due to Azerbaijan's attempts to appropriate the David Gareji Georgian monastery complex.
Aliyev added that Baku has demonstrated and will continue to demonstrate a clear stance regarding Georgia's territorial integrity in all international organizations. “This is the difference. Of course, I believe that today the Georgian people know well who their friend is and who their enemy is,” emphasized the Azerbaijani president.
