Alarming Reports of Students Fainting: Psychologist Warns
Massive displays of aggressive behavior are inevitably arising among students, stated psychologist and educational expert Armine Davtyan during an interview with Factinfo.
Since the beginning of the school year, Factinfo has received reports concerning a behavior regulation introduced by the Ministry of Education and Science, which is negatively impacting particularly elementary school students due to COVID-19 restrictions. Students are forced to remain seated for hours after entering the classroom, and they are not allowed to stand up or walk even during breaks. In one school located in central Yerevan, a case of a boy fainting has even been recorded.
In the interview, the expert mentioned that she has also heard of complaints regarding students fainting. Parents of school-aged children have conveyed this information to her. She remarked, "This situation will lead to children becoming overwhelmed within a week. Due to intense psychological stress, various neuroses will develop among them, and students will no longer be able to fully integrate into the learning process; soon they simply won't want to attend school. The time for these consequences to manifest is not far off."
According to her, all of this will inevitably lead to massive displays of aggressive behavior among the students, as any organism, particularly in these age groups, needs a way to release pent-up energy. If this does not happen, the child's body cannot withstand it for long. "As a result, students will become withdrawn, and health deteriorations will continue. A sharp decline in students' academic performance may be observed. In addition to psychological issues, sitting still for hours can lead to spinal problems, and due to poor blood circulation, nausea and vomiting may occur, accompanied by dizziness and weakness. This is the result of the reports we have received regarding fainting incidents. Especially in cases where students wear masks for hours, all of this will become more frequent," warned psychologist Armine Davtyan.
When asked what could result if such a situation persists, Armine Davtyan responded that since the overwhelming majority of teachers have already demonstrated themselves to be flagrant conformists—fearing to speak out about problems that could lead to losing their jobs—if this continues, we will witness a wave of anger from the parental community. Not all parents will allow and tolerate such a situation, which will undoubtedly lead to a sharp and obvious deterioration in their children's psychological and physical well-being.
