450 Bags of Waste: Anna Hakobyan Participates in Cleanup Efforts at the Shoreline of the Vanadzor River
Anna Hakobyan, the wife of the Prime Minister of Armenia, participated today in cleanup efforts at the shoreline of the Vanadzor River, alongside Shombi Sharp, the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, and numerous volunteers as part of the “Armenia Without Plastic Waste” program organized by the My Step Foundation.
“Within just a few hours, we have cleaned 1.5 km of the Vanadzor River’s polluted shoreline, restoring nature to its true appearance and charm. A total of 450 bags of waste have been collected, of which 200 bags of sorted waste (plastic waste) have been sent for recycling, while the remaining waste has been transported to the landfill,” Anna Hakobyan noted on her Facebook page.
She also mentioned that “Armenia Without Plastic Waste” is one of the key initiatives of the My Step Foundation, aimed at replacing single-use plastic bags with reusable ones, while implementing behavioral changes in society that will lead to a cultural shift in plastic consumption.
The program is funded by the My Step charity foundation, with support from the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program implemented by UNDP and the office of the UN Resident Coordinator.
