Two Individuals Detained in Illegal Drug Trafficking Case
On September 1, 2020, at 18:10, a 57-year-old man was detained by the police on Chekhov Street in Yerevan on suspicion of illegal drug possession, trafficking, and use. During a personal search, two packages containing brown substances resembling heroin were discovered, weighing approximately 0.6 grams.
On September 2, 2020, at 14:10, two citizens were apprehended on similar charges at 13 N. Shengavit Street in Yerevan. A search of the "Opel" vehicle belonging to one of the detainees, a 55-year-old man, revealed two packages containing brown substances resembling heroin, weighing approximately 0.9 grams.
Criminal cases were initiated at the Shengavit Division of the Police of the Republic of Armenia based on Articles 266 (2nd part, 2nd point) and 268 (2nd part, 2nd point) of the RA Criminal Code. These cases have been transferred to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia for further investigation.
Investigative and operational measures revealed that the aforementioned individuals had purchased the illicit drugs from the same person, a 61-year-old resident of Yerevan. It was decided to consolidate the criminal cases and continue the investigation as a single case.
Based on sufficient evidence, the 61-year-old man faces charges under Article 266 (illegal trafficking of drugs, psychoactive substances, and their precursors for the purpose of sale or manufacturing) 2nd part, 2nd point (2 episodes), while the 55-year-old man is charged under Article 268 (illegal trafficking of drugs or psychoactive substances without intention to sell) 2nd part, 2nd point. Both individuals have been subjected to detention as a preventive measure.
It was decided to release the 57-year-old man, who was charged under Article 268 (2nd part, 2nd point), from detention due to the cessation of necessity. A signature was taken from him regarding non-departure as a preventive measure. The investigation is ongoing.
