Only One Opposition Leader Remains Free in Belarus
Raids are being conducted on September 9 in Belarus at the homes of opposition representatives. According to Korrespondent, only Sviatlana Alexievich remains at liberty among the opposition leaders.
The investigative actions were reported by the headquarters of detained opposition figure and banker Viktor Babaryka, from where the president of the Coordination Council, Maxim Znak, was taken earlier. Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and individuals in civilian clothing are conducting searches at the headquarters.
The opposition reports that searches are also taking place at the homes of council members Maxim Znak and Maria Kolesnikova. Znak's lawyer has stated that he was arrested in connection with a case regarding the formation of the Coordination Council for “calling for actions aimed at harming the national security of the country.”
In addition, Nobel Prize-winning writer Sviatlana Alexievich has reported that unknown individuals are attempting to break into her apartment. Currently, she is the only council member who remains free.
