Hooliganism with Use of Weapon in Yerevan: Abusive Argument Turns into Fight

On August 31, around 10 PM, the police received a report at the Central Police Department's Marash subdivision about gunfire in Aygestan 3rd Street. Operational teams from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Yerevan Police, as well as officials from the Central Police Department and Marash subdivision, rushed to the scene.

Upon inspecting the area, traces of blood, homemade explosives (one of which had detonated), and rifle cartridges were discovered. A criminal case was initiated at the territorial investigative department. Within this framework, criminal investigators from the Central Police Department and Marash subdivision carried out various operational measures.

It was specifically determined that a group of individuals had argued in the yard of building number 7 on Alek Manukyan Street, and the verbally abusive dispute escalated into a physical altercation. During this time, one of the participants fired a gun.

Minutes after the incident, one participant was taken with bodily injuries to the number 1 university hospital. The identities of those involved soon became known. Several participants were located and brought to the police station; two of them were arrested.

Through operational and investigative measures, law enforcement also identified the individual who had fired the weapon. As part of the operation to locate the 24-year-old suspect, explanatory work was undertaken. As a result, on September 4, the suspect came to the Central Police Department and was subsequently presented to the investigative body handling the case, where he was arrested. He was remanded in custody on September 5.

Further investigations led to the recovery of the firearm, which, according to preliminary data, is deemed the instrument of the crime. Examinations have been scheduled, and circumstances are being clarified.
