The Situation of the Tourism Sector in Armenia
The newspaper "Joghovurd" writes: "Covid-19 has had a negative impact on the development of tourism in Armenia. What condition the sector is in is becoming clear today from the data of the Statistical Committee of Armenia. In the first half of this year, the number of tourists has significantly decreased. According to the Statistical Committee, 311,264 tourists arrived in our republic from January to June, while the number of tourists who arrived in Armenia in the same period last year was 770,055.
On the other hand, from April to June, the arrivals and departures recorded at the border crossing points by the Border Electronic Management Information System (BEMIS) of the National Security Service of Armenia have been classified as tourists. According to the government's decision on March 16, entry into Armenia is allowed through the crossing points for Armenian citizens and their family members who are not citizens, as well as those who have the legal right to reside in Armenia.
Meanwhile, the number of domestic tourists has reached 140,158, while the same period last year saw 235,456. Of those, only 24,278 traveled for business purposes, while 100,024 arrived for leisure and recreation. "Joghovurd" has learned that 7,245 citizens have come to Armenia for medical treatment. It is noteworthy that these figures reflect the tourists registered in hotels, resorts, and leisure homes."
