Substance Resembling Methamphetamine Found in Inmate's Jacket Pocket

On September 6, 2020, around 02:40, inmate A.P. at the Republic of Armenia's "Armavir" penitentiary complained to the administration about sharp pains in his abdomen. This was reported by the Correctional Service.

At the same time, a citizen contacted the responsible duty officer, introducing herself as A.P.'s relative "sister," and demanded that her brother be immediately transferred to a civilian hospital. The duty doctor conducted a health assessment, after which, upon the doctor's recommendation, an ambulance was called at 05:00.

The situation was promptly reported to the operational division of the "Armavir" penitentiary. The operational staff, together with personnel from the Vagharshapat police department, utilized the received operational intelligence and searched inmate A.P. in the relevant office of Vagharshapat hospital on suspicion of drug possession.

According to operational data, upon leaving the hospital, the inmate was supposed to step on a previously discarded adhesive package lying on the ground, then at an opportune moment, detach it from his shoe and conceal it on his person.

However, prison staff, observing his actions, conducted a search at the appropriate moment, resulting in the seizure of a package from the left pocket of the inmate's sports jacket. The package contained a white powdery substance resembling methamphetamine, weighing approximately 2.07 grams.

Materials are being prepared on the fact, and a judicial chemical examination has been appointed.
