Saakashvili Accepts Georgian Opposition's Offer to Become Prime Minister
Mikheil Saakashvili has accepted the Georgian opposition's offer to become the Prime Minister of the country. Saakashvili announced this on his Facebook page.
"I have accepted the proposal from the united Georgian opposition to become the Prime Minister of Georgia after we win the parliamentary elections on October 31. Right now, parliamentary elections are taking place not in Ukraine, but in Georgia, and I want to help my people overcome the current crisis. Therefore, I have declared that I agree to be the transitional Prime Minister, not for the full term, but for a stabilization period until we can overcome the deep crisis in which Georgia is currently situated," Saakashvili wrote.
He added, "I am still in Ukraine and carrying out my duties as the head of the Reform Executive Committee. We are preparing for the next session of the National Assembly, and we have a very important agenda. We will propose a comprehensive program of reforms in the areas of resource use, electrical connections, judicial system reform, and federal architectural control. Furthermore, the parliament will soon discuss our previously proposed customs reforms, capital exit tax, and privatization reforms. I continue to visit Ukraine and work as usual. For me, the fates of Ukraine and Georgia are inseparable. I do not choose between the two countries; my struggle continues both here and there," Saakashvili stated.
