Let Him Come: Georgian Prime Minister on Saakashvili's Plans
The return of former President Mikheil Saakashvili cannot hinder the electoral process in the country. Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated this, as reported by Novosti Georgia.
“I will say once again, let him come. No one and nothing can put the country’s stability and the peaceful conduct of the electoral process into question,” Gakharia said.
He noted that the upcoming parliamentary elections will be held on time and in accordance with democratic principles.
Earlier, Grigol Vashadze, the president of the United National Movement party, announced that their candidate for Prime Minister will be Mikheil Saakashvili, the country’s third president.
Saakashvili announced his decision to return to Georgia on August 27 during a video message on his Facebook page. In the video, he expressed confidence in the victory of the popular will in the upcoming parliamentary elections and also apologized to the public for past mistakes.
Saakashvili is currently a citizen of Ukraine, and since May, he has been heading the executive committee for reforms in President Volodymyr Zelensky's government.
