Education Ministry: Georgian Citizens Studying in Armenian Institutions Can Enter Armenia
The Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports has published information on its Facebook page regarding the permission for foreign citizens, including Georgian citizens of Armenian descent studying in Armenian educational institutions to enter Armenia.
“This year, 84 Armenian diaspora members and 11 citizens of Armenia residing abroad, who are foreign nationals, applied online to participate in the admission process for higher education institutions in Armenia for the 2020-2021 academic year. As a result, 17 Georgian citizens (of Armenian ethnicity) who participated in the unified exams have been accepted into Armenian higher education institutions, and according to the decree, their entry into Armenia has been ensured to join the academic process starting from September 1, 2020.
Currently, more than 300 foreign Armenian candidates from various countries have applied to the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia to study in Armenian educational institutions, with around 250 of them being Georgian citizens. With the permission of the government, these candidates (Georgian citizens) have been granted permission to enter Armenia through the mediation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and the Armenian Embassy in Georgia. The admission process is ongoing.
The Ministry of Education and Science has sent a circular to primary, secondary vocational, and higher educational institutions in Armenia to provide information about Georgian citizens studying in their institutions who have issues entering Armenia due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the government's decree, 592 Georgian citizens studying in Armenian institutions will be allowed to enter Armenia to participate in the academic process starting from September 15.
Additionally, five Georgian citizens studying in Armenian public schools have also been granted entry into Armenia with the government's permission.
