Three Residents of Armavir Arrested for Violence Against Police Officers

On September 3, 2020, around 7:00 PM, officers from the Police Patrol Service of Armavir region noticed that the driver and passengers of an "Opel" vehicle were drinking beer near a park in Armavir city. Upon seeing the police, they exhibited blatant disrespect towards the public and intentionally disturbed public order, shouting insults.

As the police approached the youths and requested to see their identification, they, being under the influence of alcohol, continued to shout vulgarities and did not comply with the legal demands of the police officers. During this time, a 27-year-old in the vehicle grabbed a mobile phone from one of the officers and broke it.

The police attempted to detain them, but the young men began to resist, during which a 24-year-old struck one of the officers several times, causing physical pain. Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man drove away in a police-owned "VAZ 2106" vehicle towards the beginning of Shahumyan street; however, upon seeing a police vehicle in pursuit, he returned to the same spot.

The driver and passengers of the "Opel" vehicle were taken to the Armavir Division of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, where they continued to shout insults and pull at the police uniforms.

A criminal case was initiated at the Armavir Division of the Police under Article 316 (Use of Violence Against a Representative of Authority) Part 1 and Article 258 (Hooliganism) Part 3 Section 1 of the RA Criminal Code, which has been sent for investigation to the Armavir Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. On September 3, 2020, three residents of Armavir, born in 1996, 1993, and 1984, were arrested on suspicion of using violence against police officers and hooliganism, while two boys born in 1992 were subjected to a signature as a preventive measure regarding their non-departure. The investigation is ongoing.

Notice: A suspect in an alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia by a legally binding court decision.
