VIDEO: The Discovery of Treasure Hunting at the 'Akhtamir Fortress' Monument Site

On August 27, officers from the Ashtarak police department detained two residents of Yerevan for suspected treasure hunting in the area of the historical-cultural monument 'Akhtamir Fortress' in the Voskewaz community, along with their vehicle, a 'VAZ-21213'.

During a personal search of one of the suspects, an ancient coin marked with '10', two metal objects, and a folding knife were discovered, which he claimed to have found through excavation at the site of the historical-cultural monument.

During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the detainees had dismantled, found, and stolen three copper coins from an area known as 'Badali Jam' in the Voskewaz community at the beginning of August, which they later sold at Vernissage. Additionally, in mid-May, they had stolen four copper coins, a copper ring with a red stone from the same location, and again sold them at Vernissage.

This was not their first offense; they had previously excavated and stolen copper coins and rings from the same site between 2018 and 2019, and sold those as well.

During the vehicle inspection, two metal detectors and three bullet-like objects were found, which the detainees claimed to have discovered while searching for items with their metal detectors at the same site. The items found have been packaged and sealed. Investigations are underway to clarify the circumstances. Materials are being prepared.
