VIDEO. Kocharian Sees Many Similarities Between Armenia's 2018 Protests and the Situation in Belarus

Robert Kocharian's interview with the Russian RBK television channel: "It would be easier to say that it does not remind me of anything," the former head of state noted during the interview.

Listing the differences, Kocharian emphasized the stance of European countries, which contrasted with the situation in Armenia at that time, and now Belarus. He stated, "The attitude of Western countries towards Belarus was completely different from their attitude towards Armenia. The authorities in Armenia were objectively much more tolerant of dissent; the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and the president actively collaborated with Western countries. We did not have political prisoners, beatings of journalists, and mysterious disappearances. Moreover, the RPA was a member of the European People's Party and actively cooperated with inter-party cooperation institutions," Kocharian said.

However, with the outbreak of protests in April 2018, relations with Europe changed dramatically, Kocharian pointed out.
