Lukashenko Claims He Offered Opposition a Vote Recount
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has stated that he proposed a vote recount to the opposition following the presidential elections. According to reports from RIA Novosti, Lukashenko asserted that the opposition refused and insisted on holding new elections.
Earlier today, while speaking at a Minsk-based automotive factory, the Belarusian leader mentioned that presidential elections could take place after the adoption of a new Constitution, with various options currently being considered.
It is noteworthy that protests in Belarus have been ongoing for the 9th consecutive day, with citizens expressing their dissatisfaction regarding the results of the presidential elections held on August 9, which declared the current President Alexander Lukashenko as the winner, receiving over 80% of the votes. Opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhonovskaya received about 10% of the votes.
