Belarusians Protest Near 'Volodarka' Prison Demanding Release of Political Prisoners

Following the presidential elections on August 9, protests and strikes continue in Belarus. According to the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs, approximately 7,000 people were arrested in the first days, and two people were killed. Immediately after the elections, internet access was effectively blocked in the country, and security forces displayed unprecedented brutality in dispersing protests.

According to 'Charter-97', around five thousand people gathered yesterday near 'Volodarka' prison, where activists from 'European Belarus' and 'People's Gramada' held a rally demanding the release of political prisoners.
