Who is responsible for the government's silence during the events in Amulsar? Ani Samsonyan
During a special session of the National Assembly, Ani Samsonyan, a member of the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction, raised the issue related to Amulsar and directed several questions to the governing body: Who is responsible for the promises made by the government to the defenders of Amulsar in 2018? Who is accountable for allocating nearly $400,000 from the state budget for the ineffective expertise of 'Elard', which did not provide us with actionable answers? Who is responsible for the recent events in Amulsar involving clashes, injured individuals, and police actions? Who is responsible for the interference of the security personnel hired by 'Lydian' with the work of law enforcement officers and for the violence against the police? Who is responsible for the government's irresponsible silence in this situation?
Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan responded, stating, 'You have the right for that. I can generally add one thing: with the adoption of our government's decision today, the restrictions on holding gatherings have been lifted, and those who have certain grievances regarding any process can articulate their opinions in accordance with the rules.'
Samsonyan added, 'Leaving people alone in this situation is not correct from the Government's side. What is your response to the demand for the cancellation of the EIA? What can you say to those people who remind you of your promises, but you do not respond?’
Avinyan replied, 'If we made any promises that we have not fulfilled, I must ask you to specify that much more directly and clearly, because I do not recall such a promise that we made and did not follow through. The issue related to Amulsar has many layers, and I believe that our previously made statements stand in force concerning the demands raised by environmentalists and the grievances raised regarding 'Lydian'.'
