Parliament Rejects LHK's Bill to Cancel State of Emergency Extension
The "Enlightened Armenia" faction presented a bill during a special session today, proposing to cancel the state of emergency regime in Armenia. "We are ready to bring our approaches. I am prepared to work on the projects for 24 hours so that they can be presented quickly, accepted, and we can exit the state of emergency regime. Therefore, 'Enlightened Armenia' proposes that today the parliament cancel the decision to extend the state of emergency, in which case the government will be obliged to come quickly to the parliament and promptly accept the remaining laws. Otherwise, this is an easy way to declare a state of emergency, not work, and not prepare new legislative packages to formalize what we have de facto, de jure," said the head of the faction, Edmond Marukyan, during his speech.
However, the bill proposed by LHK was not accepted in parliament. Lilit Makunts, the leader of the ruling faction, announced that the ruling majority would vote against it. Earlier, we reported that Naira Zohrabyan, during her speech, stated that the Prosperous Armenia Party supports the initiative brought forward by the opposition coalition.
A total of 22 deputies voted in favor of the bill, while 68 voted against it.
