Turkey Concerned by Statements from Armenia Regarding the Treaty of Sèvres

Turkey is concerned about the events held in Yerevan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Sèvres, as well as the statements made by high-ranking officials of the Republic of Armenia regarding this issue. According to Ermenihaber, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey has issued a statement in response to these remarks.

The Turkish foreign department indirectly threatened by stating, 'The time has come for Armenian state bodies (authorities) to abandon their aggressive nationalist policies and to get their wits together.' The statement noted that the purpose of the Sèvres Treaty was to partition Turkey and put an end to its independence and sovereignty; however, the Turkish nation has 'torn it up and thrown it into the dustbin of history.'

With this statement, Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs indirectly accused Armenia of sowing animosity and harboring 'sinister intentions' by seeking the assistance of the Sèvres Treaty. The statement also reiterated the recent opinions expressed by high-ranking officials, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, that Armenia is unable to meet the everyday needs of its own people.

Additionally, Turkey's foreign department addressed the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, accusing Armenia of 'occupying Azerbaijani territories and being the only obstacle to establishing peace and stability in the region.'
