Belarusian MFA Ready to Present Facts on Foreign Interference in Country's Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on foreign partners to objectively and calmly understand the events taking place in Belarus, without making hasty statements. This is stated in the department's statement.
“Considering a number of statements from European capitals, we want to emphasize that we are not indifferent to the reactions of our foreign partners regarding the conduct and results of the presidential elections in Belarus. Of course, we are closely monitoring this.”
“It is completely unacceptable how quickly various European officials made the most important political statements about our country, even without attempting to objectively clarify and realistically assess the situation. Individual loud conclusions made at the highest levels are based on one-sided information and blatant lies. In particular, a death was announced even without the minimum verification of information. And even after it became clear to everyone that this was, fortunately, not true, the statements were not corrected. However, on this basis, fateful decisions regarding our country's relations with the EU are already being contemplated.”
“Moreover, when a person actually dies, the tragedy is turned into a farce, fabricating completely unbelievable versions and presuming guilt on the authorities in advance. More than 250 injured, barricades in the streets, attempts to seize administrative buildings... An attack on the staff of the Belarusian embassy in London. Is this still a peaceful protest? What else should happen for the opinion to become objective? Will the political courage be sufficient to see at least those who are clearly inciting?”
“Even before the pre-election campaign, we reached out to our partners for help, speaking about the facts of direct foreign interference. We have repeatedly proposed to those who criticize us today to investigate what is happening together.”
“Instead, calls for sanctions have already sounded the very next day. After this, how can we trust your recommendations' sincerity? Yes, we invited the OSCE/ODIHR a bit later than usual. And there are a number of significant reasons for this, which we informed you about in advance. But we have always accepted election observation missions in the face of all critical conclusions. Why weren't you so eager to come this time? Was there not an opportunity to do this, albeit in a reduced format, as in other countries during the pandemic?”
“We propose to objectively and without emotions understand what is happening today in Belarus, how and why. We are ready for constructive and, above all, objective dialogue with all foreign partners on this topic. We are prepared to present specific undeniable facts that reveal the background of current events, including foreign interference.”
“We call on all foreign partners to conduct a balanced analysis and consider all positions. We are not saying that you should abandon your traditional sources of information and opinions. However, the information will undoubtedly be more comprehensive and professional if it is multifaceted, including taking into account official data and those assessments made by those responsible for the situation in the country.”
“We appeal to our partners, our neighbors. Do not rush to make statements that cause instability in society. If you support independence and sovereignty, demonstrate not only principles but also responsibility.”
