RT Correspondent Arrested in Minsk as Investigative Committee Launches Over 20 Criminal Cases
Russian RT correspondent Konstantin Pridibalov has reported his arrest in Minsk. According to RIA Novosti, the journalist shared this information on his Telegram channel.
Sources indicate that Belarus's Investigative Committee has initiated over 20 criminal cases related to mass disturbances, which could carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
Earlier, Alena Sivkova, the editor-in-chief of Daily Storm, reported that the publication's journalists Anton Starkov and Dmitri Lashenko were assaulted during their arrest in Minsk. Reporters from the Meduza agency and the Dozhd television channel were also among those affected.
It is important to note that numerous arrests occurred during large-scale protests held the day before, triggered by the results of the presidential elections held on August 9, which indicated that incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko received 80.08% of the votes.
