Calm in Kulikam Village of Javakheti, No Information on Arrests Yet, Says Village Head

In the village of Kulikam, Javakheti, where a 27-year-old resident was killed today in the town of Akhalkalaki, the situation is calm. In a conversation with NEWS.am, village head Serge Shirinyan stated that there are currently no police officers in the village and the situation is peaceful.

“The incident occurred in the evening, there was a dispute and a fight, a gunshot was fired, and a 27-year-old young man from our village died, and another person is in serious condition in the hospital,” he said.

According to the village head, the police have called on the parties to calm down and refrain from further attacks, and there is still no information on the arrested individuals.

The deceased young man had just gotten married a few months ago and has no children. Media outlets also report that the situation in Akhalkalaki remains tense, with a large number of police monitoring the streets to prevent possible new attacks from the relatives of the deceased.

Earlier, it was reported that as a result of riots in the Armenian-populated Akhalkalaki, one person had died, and another was taken to the hospital. Subsequently, relatives of the deceased set fire to a hotel and four houses. According to the chief physician of Akhalkalaki hospital, A. Toroyan, one injured person was transferred to them, and another person died on the spot. Several cars were damaged near the hospital.
