Video: Debris from Powerful Explosion Falls on Altar During Service in Beirut
Al Arabiya has released a video taken during the powerful explosion in the port of Beirut, Lebanon, showing how debris from the blast falls near the altar where a priest is conducting a service. In the footage, the clergyman initially does not comprehend what is happening, but moments later, he quickly runs to the side to avoid being hit.
It has been noted that there is no information regarding the fate of individuals present in the church.
Beirut is trying to recover from the catastrophic explosion that occurred on the evening of August 4. The death toll from the powerful blast in the port of Beirut has exceeded 100, and over 4,000 people have been injured, according to the Lebanese Red Cross. Six of the victims are Armenian.
The shockwave from the explosion was so strong that no part of the capital was spared from devastation, with tremors of 4.5 magnitude also reported in neighboring Jordan.
In the aftermath of the explosion on the evening of August 4, Beirut has been declared a disaster area, and a state of emergency has been imposed in the city for two weeks, from August 4 to 18.
The statement from the Catholicosate noted, "The doors, windows, and chandeliers of the Mother Cathedral of Antelias, the residence, and both the Armenian Studies and educational centers, as well as the 'Cilicia' museum have been damaged."
