U.S. House of Representatives Bill Includes Clear Reference to Nagorno-Karabakh: Makunts
On July 23, during a plenary session of the U.S. House of Representatives, a bipartisan amendment authored by Jackie Speier was adopted as part of an en-bloc package, which allocates $1.4 million in assistance for demining in Artsakh. This was reported by Lilit Makunts, the leader of the My Step faction in the Armenian National Assembly.
"Thus, the bill regarding the fiscal year 2021 budget of the State Department includes a clear expression referencing Nagorno-Karabakh. The bill should also be approved by the Senate and presented for the President's signature to become law," Makunts said.
She noted that following the decision by the U.S. State Department to halt funding for demining activities in Artsakh, the Armenian Embassy in the U.S. has been actively working in Congress and the administration to continue the necessary funding. "Special thanks to our colleagues in the Armenian Caucus in the U.S. Congress for their consistent efforts,” Makunts added.
