Edmon Marukyan: Legal Support for Our Compatriots Must Be Provided in Accordance with Local Law

The leader of the "Enlightened Armenia" faction in the National Assembly, Edmon Marukyan, addressed the clashes between Armenians and Azerbaijanis occurring in Russia and other places. He particularly noted:

“There is only one area where the use of force is acceptable. Of course, it is necessary and possible to compete with Azerbaijanis politically, economically, culturally, and in sports, but street justice and physical violence cannot be our means of expression. We must understand that as a result of these incidents, the lives of Armenians living in various parts of the world are endangered.

I urge our compatriots in the diaspora not to succumb to provocations and to refrain from participating in instigated ethnic clashes. This is an unacceptable and destructive practice. It is crucial to show restraint and calmness and to firmly establish that the only area designated for the use of force is the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, where our soldiers are protecting our homeland and enforcing peace through the use of force if necessary.

I call on the diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Armenia in embassies and consulates to open hotlines to gather information on our compatriots who have been subjected to violence as a result of Azerbaijani attacks, and to initiate legal processes in accordance with the laws of that country, providing necessary legal and other support to our compatriots,” Marukyan wrote on his official Facebook page.

It is worth noting that in Moscow, a group of Azerbaijanis aggressively and organizedly attacked several local Armenian residents, beat them, insulted them, while another group targeted vehicles with Armenian state license plates, breaking windows and assaulting drivers.
