Another 64 Families Living in 4th Category Emergency Buildings in Yerevan Received Apartments
Another 64 families living in 4th category emergency buildings in Yerevan will now reside in new, comfortable, and well-lit apartments. The Yerevan Municipality has announced this.
A housing entry ceremony took place at the building located on Sisakyan Street 3. The key to the new apartment and the ownership certificate were handed over to the Hairapetian family by Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan. "In 2019, we had already relocated some residents from the 4th category emergency buildings at 8 and 10 Artsakh Boulevard. With the construction and handover of this building, we have resolved this issue completely," noted the mayor.
Considering the state of emergency due to the pandemic, families receive their keys individually. Until the completion of the new building, these families had been transferred from emergency buildings, and the community covered the monthly costs of the rented apartments. "This is one of our most important programs: to relocate people from emergency buildings to normal ones. This is not only a program to improve people's lives; for me, first and foremost, it is a program to ensure people's safety. Of course, it is also quite important that people’s quality of life is improved compared to the conditions they were living in, but still, safety is the number one issue for the city government," emphasized Hayk Marutyan.
Mayor Marutyan toured the apartments to get acquainted with the conditions. The apartments are delivered to families equipped with most essential amenities, including interior finishing, heating, water, and natural gas supply systems. For decades, these families lived without the basic conditions necessary for housing, feeling the danger of collapse every day.
"I congratulate everyone, and I also congratulate us, the residents of Yerevan, because the resolution of this issue brings joy to all of us. I also thank all the residents of Yerevan, as this building was constructed with the budget of Yerevan, and all residents have contributed to the community budget. Therefore, I thank all our residents who participated in the construction of this building. I am grateful that the city government had the opportunity and utilized that budget to truly move people from very poor, one could say inhumane conditions to quality apartments that meet today's standards," said the mayor.
This social program for resettlement, which is of significant importance to the municipality, will be ongoing. Another building will soon be constructed on Margaryan Street using community budget funds, which will provide a solution to the resettlement of residents living in other 4th category emergency buildings.
