Efforts Must Be Made to Continue Negotiations: Giga Tsarukteli Discusses with Ararat Mirzoyan
The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, Giga Tsarukteli, held a phone conversation with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan. According to the 'European Georgia' party, the parties discussed the clashes at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the ensuing situation, as reported by aliq.ge.
According to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, military operations are currently not ongoing, although there are individual violations. He also emphasized the importance of international organizations, particularly the OSCE, in mediating to ceasefire and continue negotiations.
In turn, Giga Tsarukteli noted that the resumption of military operations harms the prospects of resolving the conflict peacefully and poses a threat to regional security. Tsarukteli also expressed his concern over the casualties and injuries resulting from the clashes.
“It is regrettable that during the pandemic, when we expected more cooperation from countries, such clashes are occurring, leaving the population feeling even more vulnerable. Everything must be done to ensure the continuation of negotiations and there must be political will to resolve the conflict in accordance with OSCE principles and international norms,” said Giga Tsarukteli.
He added that representatives of the OSCE Minsk Group are in constant contact with the parties.
