Third Parliamentary Elections Held in Syria Amid Civil War
Amidst the ongoing war and economic crisis, parliamentary elections are taking place in Syria today. The results are likely to again favor the political force led by President Bashar al-Assad, the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party.
The unicameral parliament of Syria is elected for a term of four years, with 1,600 candidates competing for 250 seats.
Over the more than nine years of internal conflict in Syria, 400,000 people have lost their lives, and around three million have become refugees.
