Turkey's Parliament Issues Accusatory Statement Against Armenia
Turkey's Parliament (Meclis) has issued a biased and accusatory statement regarding the situation at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. This was reported by Ermenihaber.
The statement was signed by 4 out of 5 parliamentary factions, including the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), the nationalist Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), and the Good Party. The pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), the third force in the parliament, did not join the declaration.
The statement was read during a parliamentary session by Deputy Speaker Sureyya Sadi Bilgic. It directly accuses Armenia of "attacking Azerbaijan," "occupying Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding territories," and "obstructing the establishment of peace and stability in the South Caucasus." The parliament has called on the international community to respond appropriately to Armenia's behavior, which Turkish lawmakers describe as "disregarding the law."
The four parliamentary factions expressed their unconditional support for Azerbaijan in their statement. "Turkey, which has always defended peace and security with the understanding of 'two states, one nation,' will continue to be alongside Azerbaijan in its efforts to restore territorial integrity with all its capabilities," the statement read.
