Do Not Endanger the Lives of Children of Armenians and Azerbaijanis: Anna Hakobyan
Anna Hakobyan, the wife of the Prime Minister of Armenia, made a post on her Facebook page calling for an end to military operations and a move toward peace.
“Since yesterday, tensions have escalated on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, with clashes beginning between the Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces. According to official information, the Azerbaijani side has suffered four casualties in a matter of hours. As the author of the Women for Peace campaign, I urge Azerbaijani women and mothers to call upon their country’s military-political leadership to halt military operations and not to endanger the lives of children of both the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples,” she stated.
“Women, mothers, and sisters should ask their military-political leaders what they gained at the cost of losing their loved ones, their personal tragedies, and what prevents them from discussing issues in a peaceful environment through negotiations with the leadership of the opposing side. Especially during these pandemic days that have brought the world to its knees, state leaders should focus their efforts on maintaining the health of their own people and on the common enemy—the pandemic—aimed at returning humanity to its normal life,” she added.
“Following the call of the UN Secretary-General for a Global Ceasefire is the best that country leaders can do for their nations and peoples. War must always be avoided. There is always an alternative.”
