Five Residents Hospitalized with Severe and Moderate Mushroom Poisoning in Stepanavan

Today, five residents from the Kurtan community in the Lori region sought medical assistance at the Stepanavan Medical Center. Based on the history of the illness, they were diagnosed with "acute exogenous poisoning from mushrooms." The patients received necessary medical care and were transported to Yerevan by ambulance for further treatment. The condition of three of the affected individuals is assessed as severe, while two are in moderate condition.

According to the patients, they had consumed mushrooms they had gathered from the forest.

In order to prevent mushroom poisoning and subsequent complications, the Ministry of Health once again warns:

  • Do not consume mushrooms of unknown origin,
  • Do not collect mushrooms from the edges of roads,
  • Do not rely on images to distinguish between edible and poisonous mushrooms, as toxic mushrooms often grow near edible ones and can look very similar,
  • Do not follow popular myths about mushrooms, such as the belief that insects and other animals avoid poisonous mushrooms or that silver tarnishes when cooking poisonous mushrooms,
  • Do not eat raw mushrooms,
  • Do not feed mushrooms to children,
  • People with gastrointestinal issues are advised not to consume mushrooms,
  • Do not consume alcohol with mushrooms, as it activates various toxic substances,
  • Do not store fresh mushrooms for more than one day, even in refrigerated conditions,
  • Avoid self-treatment.
