Man Threatens Police with Firearm Demanding They Stay Away
On July 8, 2020, at around 03:30, officers from the Vagharshapat division of the Police stopped a 30-year-old man on Mashtots Street in Ejmiadzin while attempting to detain him on suspicion of causing bodily harm. During the stop, the suspect resisted the police, refused to comply with their legal orders, and threatened them with a firearm, demanding they not approach him. However, the police managed to neutralize him and take him into custody along with the driver of the vehicle, an Opel, to the Vagharshapat police station.

During a personal search of the 30-year-old citizen, 1.45 grams of a greenish substance resembling marijuana was discovered, and in the vehicle’s interior, an object resembling an F-1 grenade and an explosive device were found.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 316 (Use of Violence Against a Representative of Authority) and Article 235 (Acquisition, Sale, Storage, Transportation, or Carrying of Illegal Weapons, Military Equipment, Explosives, or Explosive Devices) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The investigation is being conducted by the Vagharshapat investigatory division of the Investigative Committee.
The 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of using violence against a representative of authority and illegally acquiring, storing, transporting, and carrying military equipment.
In order to clarify significant circumstances regarding the criminal case, forensic and chemical examinations have been appointed. Measures are being taken to identify the source of the acquisition of military equipment.
