As We Knew and Expected, the Authorities Crossed All Possible Red Lines of Law and Morality: Zohrapyan

Armenian National Assembly MP Naira Zohrapyan writes on her Facebook page: "Dear compatriots,

As we knew and expected, the authorities have crossed all possible red lines of law and morality. I will not speak about them or with them. I am addressing you—my compatriots living in Armenia and the Diaspora.

Do not allow them to use your—often justifiable anger and rebellion—for the sake of maintaining their power. Do not curse, do not insult either the authorities or the opposition; do not become the pawn of the authorities, who, sheltered by you, continue to divide society into 'us' and 'them,' using you as a shield while ignoring the growing economic and social crisis in the country, and making you a target to evade the imminent accountability for the failed fight against the coronavirus.

When the authorities, lacking political counterarguments, start communicating with the opposition through scandals and publicly exposing our personal accounts and phone conversations, disregarding human rights and the inviolability of personal life, it means one thing—this government is already defeated.

When, lacking political counterarguments, the authorities try to provoke us through various fake accounts and types, only to publicize those provocations later, it means one thing—this government is already defeated.

Dear compatriots, do not allow yourselves to be turned into tools in their immoral fight against opponents.

When I receive the most vulgar sexual insults in personal messages from a woman who has fled to Strasbourg and is seeking asylum there, who was stealing perfume from shops in Strasbourg and offering it to members of the Armenian delegation at half price, and upon being rejected, begins to insult, I do have the right to tell her and those like her, 'You left your homeland for a piece of loaf, and now you are corrupting Armenia from there.'

I bow to all my compatriots living in Armenia and the Diaspora, who, despite having different political views, have never hurled insults or generated hatred and animosity. Do not do it, just do not do it.

They have entered our families, pitting brother against brother, son against father, relative against relative; they have violated all possible human rights, and they will answer for this.

Do not pour water into the mill of hatred and animosity for them, whose only purpose is to divert attention from the disgraceful failures of the country by chasing political opponents. These are very serious crimes for which all players and the main orchestrators will soon have to answer.

Reject hatred and animosity, reject insults, and all their steps towards tearing society apart. We are truly losing our homeland. It requires very little—just do not insult and do not spread hate.

You may not love me, you may not love my party; you may even hate me or any other figure, but you do not have the right to insult me and my child, nor do you have the right to insult any representative of the opposition or the authorities because insults are indeed the greatest defeat. Insults are the weapon of the defeated, of nothingness. A wretched weapon, condemned from the outset in a doomed war.

Do not agree with me, do not agree with my colleagues or other opposition figures, but do not insult; do not spread hatred and animosity, as this leads to your defeat and the defeat of us all.

I am ready and will confront all the immoral acts of this government that are yet to come. I cannot be silenced. But also, when the time comes, I will defend and not allow a brutal reckoning against all those whose families they have intruded upon. Yes, I will not allow it, because we all must pursue justice exclusively through legal means, and we will all be present at their Nuremberg.
