Corruption Exposures in the Police Department Kept Secret
Since the events of April-May 2018, the heads of security forces in Armenia have changed three times. It is evident that these changes are qualitatively lowering the level of both the Police and the National Security Service.
Alternativ.am has received intriguing information regarding the tenure of the former police chief, Arman Sargsyan. According to our source, the former police chief and his two deputy chiefs, Arthur Martirosyan (known in the system as 'Zo') and Hayk Mhyryan (known as 'Matik'), who were both classmates of Arman Sargsyan, embezzled 30 million drams intended for the salaries of secret service agents, but this money did not reach the appropriate individuals.
Furthermore, according to another piece of significant information from our source, Arman Sargsyan awarded 51 police officers nominal weapons for the holiday of the First Republic on May 28. However, among these officers were individuals who, under the law, should not have been awarded nominal weapons due to their low ranks and other reasons.
Rumors suggest that turning a blind eye to this fact cost a considerable sum, approximately 2000 US dollars for each officer. This operation was coordinated by Samvel Kocharyan, the head of the Personnel Policy Department of the Police, with the aforementioned trio—Sargsyan, Martirosyan, Mhyryan—standing above.
