Mher Mkrtchyan Posthumously Awarded the Title of 'Honorary Citizen of Gyumri'
The Soviet People's Artist Mher Mkrtchyan (Frunzik) has been posthumously awarded the title of 'Honorary Citizen of Gyumri.' The Gyumri Mayor's Office reports that today, on the occasion of Mher Mkrtchyan's 90th birthday, a tribute was paid to the renowned Armenian actor. Gyumri Community Leader Samvel Balasanyan, Deputy Community Leader Haik Sultanyan, and cultural representatives laid flowers at the statue of the actor located in front of the Gyumri Dramatic Theatre.
Afterward, attendees visited the Mher Mkrtchyan Memorial House-Museum. Samvel Balasanyan presented the honorary citizen’s commemorative medal and the council’s decision to the museum.
Mher, known as Frunzik Mkrtchyan, was born in 1930 in Leninakan and lived in the Textiles district. The street where the famous actor spent his childhood and teenage years bears his name, and a plaque on the building reminds visitors that Mher Mkrtchyan lived there from 1937 to 1953.
