It is Extremely Wrong, Illogical, and Dangerous to Remove the Subject of "History of the Armenian Church" from School Programs: Arman Abovyan

There are questions on which I will show no tolerance, wrote Arman Abovyan, a member of the Armenian Parliament’s Prosperous Armenia faction, on his Facebook page, commenting on the removal of the "History of the Armenian Church" subject.

“So, let’s try to understand why the Minister of Education and Culture and, in general, the entire ministry, stubbornly and persistently moved towards the removal of the "History of the Armenian Church" as a separate subject among school programs. I remember the arguments made by the authors of this idea. First, they claimed that the information and teaching included in the program do not correspond to its purpose. Second, there are other believers in Armenia, and their views should also be respected. Third, the history of the Church will be included in the subject of Armenian History.

1. Let’s assume that there were some problems with the content and teaching. What prevented them from jointly resolving this issue with representatives of the Church?

2. This is Armenia, and we, Armenians, while respectfully relating to all traditional "faiths", are nevertheless the children of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and to me (a thousand apologies) it doesn't matter that my nation’s age-old faith might not please someone in my homeland. I believe I have explained very clearly and explicitly.

3. The history of the Armenian Church is so vast and profound that it is simply a crime to study this history superficially or cursorily. I believe I have clearly explained my position.

I reiterate that I consider it extremely wrong, illogical, and dangerous to remove the subject of "History of the Armenian Church" from school programs as a separate subject. Moreover, this is, in fact, a very expressive decision that shows what a spineless, rootless, and 'cosmopolitan' (in a bad sense) generation the authorities are trying to forge.
