History, Culture and Religion of Armenia and the Armenian People to be Included in a Single Subject for 5th and 6th Grades

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports has presented a draft of the State Educational Standard for General Education on the unified legal act publication platform (draft.am) for public discussion, outlining the changes regarding the secondary education curriculum.

The draft State Educational Standard includes several changes related to student assessment, the consolidation of certain subjects into others, and the formation of the educational plan by schools.

According to the new amendments, a 10-point grading scale will continue to be used. However, there will be no failing grade in the 10-point scale and each mark will reflect a certain level of student achievement.

In grades 1-4 and in the first semester of grade 5, numerical grading will not be implemented. Ongoing assessment will be conducted through characterization, while the annual summary assessment will be compiled in the form of a descriptor of the student’s educational progress.

The numeric grading system will come into effect from the second semester of grade 5. In grades 5 and 6, the subjects “Homeland Studies” and “Society, Social Sciences,” as well as the history, culture, and religion of Armenia and the Armenian people, geography will be included in a single subject, while in grades 7-12, they will be taught as separate subjects.

The “Society, Social Sciences” field in grades 7-12 will be presented through separate subjects covering world history and aspects of public life.
