Teachers of the Course "History of the Armenian Church" Address Araik Harutyunyan
"History of the Armenian Church" cannot be integrated with other subjects, as the goals and standards of different subjects are distinct. This statement has been made by a group of teachers from the Armavir region, who teach the subject in the Armavir district.
In their statement, they specifically say, "Dear Minister Araik Harutyunyan, a group of teachers from the Armavir region, who teach the "History of the Armenian Church,” are addressing you. We are convinced that in the 'new Armenia'—a democratic Armenia—the voice of the people must be heard first and foremost. We, the teachers, are part of the people. Teaching has always been a respected and essential profession. The teacher plays two vital roles in a person's life and in a student’s life: in shaping a person into a 'HUMAN' and in their education. A teacher must impart the child with a soul, will, and high moral values.
If you have ever attended a class of the "History of the Armenian Church” subject, or had a separate meeting with the teachers of this subject, you would see that the values mentioned above are largely formed during these classes. Today, more than ever, our state needs the formation of conscious citizens, and a society where the 'ARMENIAN' type prevails.
Mr. Minister, today we are losing the Armenian aspect in every sector. What is 'Armenian' is diminishing, giving way to foreign imports. We do not oppose reforms; we do not oppose having an updated and strong educational system, but let us move forward while preserving our Armenian identity. Let us take the good, take what will not harm our roots. If we are a bit honest, we will notice that every step we take puts the coming generation, the new Armenian, under threat.
The "History of the Armenian Church" course does not solely have the mission of preaching Christianity, as is often exploited. It is educating; it sows kindness, friendship, patience, and love for parents, teaches the customs and traditions of our own people, introduces holidays, and discusses other religions and religious traditions around the world.
The "History of the Armenian Church" subject cannot be integrated with other subjects, as the goals and standards are different. We live in a free and democratic country. Therefore, do not restrict our choice, do not constrain our opinion. Let us act in a way that our descendants will not blame us, as we often blame our predecessors. Let us do this for the benefit of the Armenian land, for the benefit of our traditions and national values.
Sincerely,
Anahit Grigoryan, Sirunik Avetisyan, Amalya Karapetyan, Larisa Petrosyan, Haykanush Pozoyan, Svetlana Papinyan, Lilit Badalyan, Narine Avetisyan, Zhanna Abrahamyan, Gohar Yenokyan, Seda Baghdasaryan, Rebecca Hakobyan, Meri Ghamaryan, Armenak Avetisyan, Anush Galstyan, Gohar Hakobyan, Mariam Hakobyan, Lala Muradyan, Seda Harutyunyan, Vardanush Poghosyan, Hasmik Aghajanyan.
