Stray Animal Sterilization Community Center Has New Building and Clinic

The Stray Animal Sterilization Community Center has a new building and clinic. This was announced by the spokesperson for the Yerevan Mayor, Hakob Karapetyan, on his Facebook page, where he also shared photographs.

He specifically noted, "Last year, some opposition colleagues were complaining about the 'inhuman' conditions for keeping and sterilizing dogs. The situation was not satisfactory, of course, but the new clinic was still under construction at that time, and the center's specialists were working in what were essentially 'field conditions'. Now the clinic is ready, with plans for expansion."

Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan visited the center to familiarize himself with the working conditions. The new clinic includes, in particular:

  • Quarantine area for holding animals
  • Shelter
  • Operating room equipped with modern facilities

In the first phase of the stray animal sterilization community program, animals are collected, sterilized, and returned to their original habitats. In the second phase, registered pets are microchipped to monitor the population.

Importantly, the city authorities intend to implement a waiver for the annual 5,000 dram local tax related to animal keeping (which is not currently enforced), provided that animal lovers and pet owners register their beloved companions.
