New Maternity and Childcare Benefits Effective July 1
As of July 1, the following support programs have come into force:
- The one-time payment for the birth of the first child has increased from 50,000 AMD to 300,000 AMD (a sixfold increase).
- For the second child, the one-time payment has been raised from 150,000 AMD to 300,000 AMD (a twofold increase).
- The monthly childcare allowance has increased from 18,000 AMD to between 26,500 and 53,000 AMD.
Specifically:
- Non-working mothers in rural areas, who previously received no assistance, will now receive a monthly benefit of 26,500 AMD.
- Working mothers in rural areas will receive nearly three times higher at 53,000 AMD per month (compared to the previous 18,000 AMD).
- Working mothers in urban areas will now receive 26,500 AMD instead of the previous 18,000 AMD.
This was also highlighted by MP Gayane Abrahamyan on her Facebook page, who added, “The prominent figures who have plundered the country and are under criminal investigation seem to have gained so much momentum that they have started counting our legitimate salaries. We are guilty for not having returned all of what you stole to the state budget, otherwise the aforementioned social support would have been doubled. We are guilty for you writing statuses instead of providing testimonies, but everything is ahead, everyone’s turn will come.”
