How Much Pensions Judges Will Receive from Now On: New Proposal by My Step Group

The newspaper "Jamanak" reported that the parliamentary faction "My Step" has introduced another bill related to judges. This time, MPs Anna Kostanyan, Vladimir Vardanyan, and Arthur Davtyan presented a package of draft amendments to the "Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia" and the law on "Provision of Activity, Service, and Social Guarantees for Officials".

These drafts aim to stipulate in the Judicial Code that "the amount of a judge's pension cannot be less than 75 percent of the salary calculated during the twelve months preceding the cessation of the judge's service, including basic and additional salaries."

It is noteworthy that this amendment will apply to all judges. The authors of the draft have noted that there is a pension calculation procedure for the judges of the Constitutional Court, while such a procedure does not exist for judges of other courts, indicating that this discriminatory approach contradicts the Constitution.

The pension of judges is a sensitive topic. In 2014, when the government raised the pension of Constitutional Court members to 450-500 thousand drams, grievances arose within the judiciary, urging attention to this inequality. Now, essentially, all judges will be equal, including judges of the country's top court, the Constitutional Court.
