Coronavirus Vaccine Will Be Available Either at the End of 2020 or Early 2021, Torosyan
There are over 100 candidate vaccines in the world that aim to become a final product, announced Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan during a government meeting.
The minister stated that it is more likely that 20 of them will become final: “Vaccines are being tested in three phases — initially on a small number of people, then on about a hundred, and finally on tens of thousands. Research indicates that there will probably be several vaccines available. This is very important for the entire global population.”
Torosyan mentioned that negotiations are currently taking place in two directions, one with direct producers: “I am personally conducting the negotiations. For example, yesterday I spoke with a representative of Moderna, which is associated with Noubar Afeyan. That vaccine is one of the most likely candidates.”
Negotiations are also ongoing with platforms such as the WHO, GAVI, and UNICEF, which will attempt to make collective purchases to ensure equitable distribution. The danger is that some countries may buy large quantities of vaccines even before they are produced, resulting in delayed access for other countries that could take up to a year.
According to various estimates, the vaccine could be available either at the end of 2020 or at the beginning of 2021. It will become clearer in the fall. The overall fact that it will happen is promising, as it means we could return to normal life without masks, which is already encouraging. We need to stay informed and keep up with developments. I will keep you updated on the results.
