Shots Fired in Yerevan: One Person Arrested
On June 30, 2020, at 4:30 PM, a citizen reported hearing gunshots near a building on Andranik Street in Yerevan and saw a person lying on the ground with head injuries. This was communicated by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
During the inspection of the adjacent area of the mentioned building, samples of what appeared to be blood were discovered and collected.
A criminal case has been initiated within the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district of the Yerevan investigative department, based on Article 258 (hooliganism) part 4 and Article 235 (illegal acquisition, sale, possession, transportation, or carrying of weapons, military supplies, explosives, or explosive devices) part 1 of the RA Criminal Code.
The identity of the individual who fired the shots has been established; he is a 21-year-old resident of Yerevan, who also sustained injuries. He has been arrested on suspicion of committing acts defined in part 4 of Article 258 and part 1 of Article 235 of the RA Criminal Code.
Forensic medical and toxicological examinations have been appointed, and samples of gunshot residue have been obtained. Investigative and procedural actions are underway to clarify all circumstances of the incident and to identify and locate other individuals involved in the incident. The preliminary investigation continues.
