Police and Customs Officials Uncover Large-scale Drug Smuggling Incident
The officers of the Directorate for the Fight Against Illicit Drug Trafficking of the Criminal Police of Armenia obtained information through operational intelligence that two young people living in Abovyan were receiving drugs from abroad. This was reported by the Armenian Police.
Agents of the Customs Anti-Smuggling Department joined the operational activities to verify this information. As a result of their joint efforts, it was revealed that the young men had ordered a taxi driver to transport the drugs to Abovyan.
The taxi driver was placed under surveillance by law enforcement. The man picked up the delivery in Yerevan and transported it to Abovyan. After receiving the package, the young men were apprehended and taken into custody.
A search conducted at the police station resulted in the discovery of substances resembling marijuana, weighing more than 100 grams, which had been sent to Armenia from the USA via postal service. According to the expert’s conclusion, the seized substance is classified as a large quantity of marijuana. A criminal case has been initiated, and the circumstances are being clarified during the preliminary investigation.
