In June, Mine Clearance Teams in Aleppo Cleared 2450 Square Meters of Mine-Infested Areas
The "Humanitarian Mine Clearance and Expertise Center" has provided details about the humanitarian operation carried out from June 16 to 29.
On June 16, the fifth group of 73 humanitarian mine clearance specialists, doctors, and Armenian experts ensuring their safety departed for the Syrian Arab Republic. On June 19, the Armenian Consul General in Aleppo, Armen Sarkisyan, met with the Armenian specialists of the fifth group and wished them success. Various issues related to their working mission were discussed during the meeting.
On June 23, the leadership of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Aleppo and the deputy head of the Aleppo Security Committee visited the humanitarian group during a familiarization tour. The purpose of the visit was to understand and discuss the group’s further activities and main provisions for cooperation.
On June 29, Arkadi Tonoyan, a representative of the humanitarian mission, met with Brenda Flors, the head of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and her staff at the Armenian Consulate in Aleppo. During the meeting, potential cooperation options between the humanitarian group and the DRC's office were discussed, particularly concerning programs on "Mine Risk Awareness and Support for Mine Victims."
In June, the mine clearance specialists of the fifth group cleared 2450 square meters of mine-infested areas in Aleppo, discovering three POG-17 mines and homemade explosive devices. Since the first day of the mission, a total of 185,209 square meters have been cleared, of which 142,000 square meters have been handed over to the Syrian authorities with certificates.
The medical team of Armenia's humanitarian fifth group has provided assistance to 646 locals despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic. Thus, from February 2019 until today, medical assistance has been provided to 13,772 patients.
Daily disinfection work continues across the entire area of permanent deployment for the humanitarian group. Although there are several restrictions and challenges due to the pandemic in Aleppo, the humanitarian group continues its mission at a high level.
