How Arman Babajanyan Responds to LHK's Request: Will He Return His Mandate?

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports: On June 22, the "Bright Armenia" party submitted a written request to the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia to restore one mandate of the National Assembly's "Bright Armenia" faction. They provided justifications regarding the requirement of the Armenian electoral code that there should be no less than 1/3 opposition presence in the parliament, and an analysis of the NA regulations directly indicates that the opposition can only be considered as one entity—the faction.

As it is known, on September 6, 2019, Arman Babajanyan announced his exit from the "Bright Armenia" faction to become an independent MP, and now Edmon Marukyan is demanding the return of that one mandate.

Yesterday, the newspaper "Zhoghovurd" contacted independent MP Arman Babajanyan for a comment, inquiring about his stance on the request submitted by the faction. “It is extremely vulnerable because by leaving the 'Bright Armenia' faction, I did not join, let’s say, the ruling faction, which could have disrupted the balance of power. So, in that respect, the request from 'Bright Armenia' is quite problematic. Let them appeal to whomever they want, as much as they want,” he stated.

We also inquired whether he is ready to return his mandate. “I will renounce my mandate the moment I feel or consider that I have failed in my work, or that I can no longer change anything. Right now, I certainly do not think that way,” he added.
