It Is Unacceptable for Armenian Women to Smoke and Use Alcohol: Survey Results

The Caucasus Research Resource Centers - Armenia has published the results of the Caucasus Barometer survey, revealing the attitudes of citizens in Armenia on various issues. The research was conducted in February-March 2019.

Some of the questions addressed the acceptable age for Armenian women to use tobacco and alcohol, live separately from their parents, or cohabitate with a man without marriage.

When asked at what age it is acceptable for Armenian women to use alcohol, 69% answered that Armenian women should never use alcohol. 21% indicated that it is acceptable between the ages of 18-25, while 6% believe it is permissible after the age of 25.

In response to a similar question regarding tobacco, 91% said it is unacceptable for Armenian women to smoke. Only 5% consider smoking acceptable between the ages of 18-25.

Moreover, 66% of respondents believe that Armenian women should always live with their parents. 23% find it acceptable to live separately at ages 18-25, while 6% believe this is acceptable at age 26 or older.

82% deem it unacceptable for Armenian women to engage in sexual relations before marriage, whereas 11% consider it acceptable at ages 18-25.

91% think that the acceptable age for Armenian women to marry is between 18-25, while 4% believe it should be 26 or older. Additionally, 75% do not find it acceptable for a woman to live with a man without marriage, while 21% consider this acceptable.
