Acting President of the Constitutional Court Ashot Khachaturyan Assures Continuation of Constitutional Supremacy

The President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan met with Ashot Khachaturyan, the acting president of the Constitutional Court. This was reported on the official website of the parliament.

Ararat Mirzoyan informed Ashot Khachaturyan that with the constitutional amendments that came into force on June 26, 2020, the powers of Constitutional Court judges (members) Grant Nazaryan, Felix Tokhyan, and Alvina Gyulumyan have ceased, who had served in the positions of members or judges of the Constitutional Court for over 12 years as of June 26, 2020.

The Speaker of the National Assembly also noted that according to part 4 of Article 213 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, the term of office of Hrayr Tovmasyan as the President of the Constitutional Court has also terminated, and the duties of the President of the Constitutional Court are performed by the oldest judge of the Constitutional Court until a new president is elected.

Since Ashot Khachaturyan is the oldest judge of the Constitutional Court as of June 26, 2020, Ararat Mirzoyan congratulated him on assuming the responsibilities of the President of the Constitutional Court.

Ashot Khachaturyan, for his part, assured that while performing the duties of the President of the Constitutional Court, he will continue to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and act independently and impartially.
