VIDEO: Starting Today, I Will Participate in Sessions - Vahe Grigoryan
I would like to start by congratulating everyone on the constitutional amendments coming into effect today. This was stated by Constitutional Court Judge Vahe Grigoryan during a press conference in front of the Constitutional Court on June 26.
Commenting on the issue of bias, Grigoryan mentioned, “When a constitutional body sees that these qualities are fundamentally lacking, they cannot exist, let alone the fact that the 7 members cannot be considered biased. The absurdity here is that until now, it has been debated whether Constitutional Court members can review a case concerning themselves. Bias is a situation where the arbitrator has an interest in the outcome of a decision, either for or against a particular side. They are not biased here; they are supportive. Imagine that you are the plaintiff, you go to court, present your claim, tell them what should happen, finish your speech, and then sit in the judge’s chair.”
Grigoryan announced that he reports to work every day, and starting today, he will participate in the sessions: “At this point, there are already 6 judges in the court. That is sufficient quorum to carry out all the powers of the Constitutional Court.”
